The Private Thoughts of Amelia E. Rye
I read a book that is called "The Private Thoughts of Amelia E. Rye" by Bonnie Shimko in this book the protagonist is Amelia whose mother does not care about her. In the story Amelia has always been bullied by the other kids in her class because as I said before her mother does not like her she wears her old sisters clothes who was in the doctors because she needed help so they locked her. When the new girl Fancy comes to class they get along really well and Fancy makes Amelia stand up for herself and everything starts to change. When Amelia was little her dad left her mother for another woman and then the lady comes back to town and they actually end up being friends.
The person that influences my character Amelia is her grandpa Thomas because he teaches her that she has to be strong. Grandpa Thomas influences Amelia to not be afraid of who she is because one day she will meet someone who will help her feel good about herself. Also another character that influences my character is Margo because she makes Amelia feel good about herself. She tells Amelia that she can work with her so that she can make money and pay for new clothes and stuff so that she can feel better about herself. Also Fancy influences Amelia the most because she teaches Amelia that it’s not bad to be different. Fancy also teaches her that it’s not bad to want to be different and makes her learn that you make friends easily.
I think that Amelia’s relationship with Fancy throughout the book grew even more because they started to hang out more and they started to think more about each other. Also I think that Fancy teaches her bad things because in the book Fancy teaches Amelia how to smoke. In one part in the book Amelia’s relationship with Fancy turns into a disaster because her mom figures out that she was friend with a colored person and then she burns Fancy’s cup when Fancy goes to Amelia’s house one time. In that time Amelia was too embarrassed to go back to Fancy house because of the way that her mom treated her. It evolved in the book because they were both different from the other kids and they were both ignored and together they overcome their fears together.
Amelia changed for the better because in the beginning she was misfit and everyone bullied her because she was really smart and she wore old clothes that her sister wore. In the beginning she thought there was no way that she could change because everyone thought that she was weird. But after Fancy came Amelia starts noticing for herself that there will always be a person that will help you rise because they care about you. In the end Amelia it’s the bullies know that she isn’t the same person she was before and that they can’t bully her because she doesn’t like it. Also she proves to everyone that she is a loyal friend because when the bully steals Fancy’s ballet clothes and Amelia runs after him and pins hi to the ground and takes it back and gives it to Fancy.
I can connect Amelia to other kids in the world because there are kids like her ll over the world. Amelia goes through a lot of problems in the story because in the story her sister goes to the hospital because she is sick and her brother goes to jail and her mother does not love her and her father left her and her closest family member had a heart attack and never got to speak again. Amelia losses a lot of this including her parent’s love which was needed for than ever because what a kid needs most is its parents love but Amelia did not have any of that because her dad left and her mom hates Amelia for that. Her mom hates Amelia for that because when her husband figured out she was pregnant he left her.
All
in all, I think Amelia had a tough time until she met people in her life that
made her feel like she was worth something because everyone made her realize
that she didn’t have to feel like she wasn’t good enough because she was more
than good enough.
