Stargirl by: Jerry Spineli

In the book I have read called "Stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli the protagonist calls her self by the name of stargirl  because she does not like her real name which is Susan but she likes nicknames. Stargirl has been home schooled almost all her life but she decides that its about time that she goes to school like everyone else. When she goes to her new school she is nothing like the kids in her school because she likes playing her ukelele when it's someones birthday. Also another difference is that she wears the weirdest clothing that a no one has ever seen. When she goes to her school she is not welcome everyone hates her because she is so different and because of they think that she thinks shes better than everyone so they do not like her. Also another reason of why my character is so different is because she has a pet mouse that she adores with all her heart.
I think that  the  thing that influences my character the most is her mom because throughout the whole book her mom is the one that supports her the most comforting her because she gets put down or her feelings get hurt. Also I think that during some part of the book her boyfriend Leo tries to support her when the whole school ignores both of them because all they had was each other but when it was time for Leo to decide if he cared more about the one and only stargirl or the school who had turned against him.He chose the school and realizes to late that he loved her and that he wanted to be with her  but she had left town.
I did not like the ending of this book because in the end she goes to the ball alone and the next day she leaves town when he discovers that he prefers her than the whole school but by the time he wanted to see her she had left.I thought it was a real sad ending because I was expecting it to be a happily ever after. Also It think that it also sucks that he realized that she gave him the tie that he really wanted also that it was changed his mind because she had been with him all the time struggling to but he gave up on er and on them and then she gave up as well and then it was to late. I would change this ending by Stargirl and Leo going to the ball and her breaking up with him because she felt that he was trying to change her trying to make her Susan and not Stargirl and then I would've probably made her say when your ready to accept who I really am then maybe we can try over again.
The theme that my book was trying to tell is that no matter how different a person can be you have to get to them for who they really are. For example, in the book Stargirl was different and after a while people got to know her and she became the most popular girl in the school and everyone liked her but then after she started going out with Leo she tried to change for him because she tried to be normal and then she started acting normal and the school got tired of her and then went against her.I think that the theme tried to relate with people that felt that they were different  from other people which made them not fit in.
My protagonist changed a lot during the book because at first she didn't care what people thought about her and just wanted to have fun and liked being different because she wasn't like anyone else. But throughout the book after hearing it so many times that she was weird she started getting sad and actually tried to be normal but couldn't she couldn't pretend to be someone she wasn't and at the end she finally realizes that she is perfect the way she is just that she needs to find the people that are like her and respect who she is.
